The project started with a thorough market analysis to find an opportunity space for a new business. This was then followed by identifying the user groups, conducting ethnographic research, analyzing the data, defining the user needs, competitor research, prototyping the user experience, brand development and finally creating a business strategy.
Project Context
In this project we utilized, the principles of project planning and implementation critical to forming a profitable and successful new business entity. We found a design opportunity that could help employees work productively while working remotely.

Opportunity Statement
How might we boost productivity and improve the work experience for remote employees?
Research Methods
We defined the network users and began our research by conducting surveys to understand our user group. We also collected data through secondary research, observation and personal interviews.

Insights from Remote Employees
Analysis
From our research, we identified communication with their co-workers, spending more time on meetings and being less productive as the main pain points of our users. We used Empathy maps for affinitizing our data and created different personas for our four user groups- Remote Employees, Co-workers, Managers and Family/Friends.
Competitor & Market Analysis
This was followed by analyzing competitors who fulfilled the criteria we defined for our offering. We used SWOT and Porter’s Five Forces to analyze our competitors and closely studied their business model. This helped us understand and prioritize our user needs. After analyzing the data and getting key insights from our users, we developed a Business Model Canvas and created a creative matrix for defining a strategy.
Product - Workmates
Workmates adds value to work life by managing your daily schedule, keeping you away from distractions and increasing productivity when working from home. It is a collaborative platform where you can get connected with your co-workers for a better working environment and avoid unnecessary communication by keeping a track of your work in the team.

Value Proposition Canvas
Brand Development
We defined our brand and developed an identity that will represent us and deliver the message of who we are to our users. We created a brand pyramid that clearly defines the brand essence, personality, values, emotional benefits, functional benefits and attributes.
Information Architecture
The information architecture was created in such a way that it will be easily understood and accessible by the users in less number of steps to reach their goals.
